Q: What do you do with the fish and plants in the winter?

A: You can leave the plants in the pond. They will simply die back and lie dormant after the first hard freeze. In the spring, they will wake up and come back to life.

You have multiple options with the fish.

1) You can remove them, shut the pond down and store them in an aquarium or stock tank in the basement or well insulated garage.
2) You can leave the fish in the pond and leave it running.
3) You can leave the fish in it, shut the falls off and put a floating heating heater in the pond. You must make sure that there is an opening in the ice for gas exchange so the fish don't suffocate.
