Q: How does the pond work?
A: The pond is set up as a self-contained ecosystem. It is 100% recycled water. The pump sits in the skimmer unit and draws water in from the pond. The water is then prefiltered before entering the pump where it is then pumped underground via flexible PVC pipe to the back of the biofalls. Here it pools up passing through more filter material and over bacteria covered lava rock, where it spills out over the rocks and back down into the pond. The filter sleeves in the skimmer and biofalls remove larger supended particles in the water. The bacteria is used to consume nutrients in the water that the algae would feed on. By eliminating the nutrients, you eliminate the food source for the algae thus, killing the algae and reducing green water. By covering the entire pond bottom with gravel, we virtually make the entire pond one big filter.
